Fuel Your Fire

So, you’ve decided you want to be fit and fierce. First of all, you’ve come to the right place. We’re here to help! Second, we feel like it’s important to break this down into why you’re here, where you’re going, and how to get there. The best analogy we’ve come up with to explain this is building a bonfire! 🔥

You’re intrigued, we know 🤨

Here’s the brief overview:

You want to build a bonfire (be fit and fierce). But without some wood (figuring out your why), it’s going to be really hard to start a fire and even harder to keep it going!

Once you’ve got wood (your Whys), it’s time to imagine the fire you want to build (the healthy life you dream of). We call this a Wellness Vision ✨ When your fit and fierce fire is blazing, what will it look like? Your Wellness Vision (blazing fire) is #goals and will draw you in like a moth.

The final piece, keeping it lit! What actions and habits do you have to put into place to keep your fire lit? Once you stabilize your fire, you can keep adding Whys and habits until you build the giant bonfire you’ve always wanted to! It will be just as magical as you imagined and it will never die as long as you keep adding wood (remembering your Whys) and stoking the flames (building habits that support your Wellness Vision).

You’ve got the gist, now let’s get started building our bonfire, shall we? 🪵🔥

Identify your Why – collect the firewood

As we said at the beginning, any good fire starts with wood (and kindling and whatever else.... we know, we’re just trying to keep this simple 😜).

So, let’s collect some firewood 🪵 Take a moment to ponder: What’s your Why? What brought you to this point? What’s that voice in your head pushing you toward? Why is this important to you? Really dig deep and see what comes up for you.

We know it can be a daunting ask, so here are some ideas to get your brain turning:

  • You’ve been diagnosed with high blood pressure or prediabetes (or any other condition) & know that lifestyle changes will help manage your diagnosis.

  • You already have health concerns and want to get off your medications / manage your diagnosis.

  • Someone you know died of a heart attack way too young & you’re realizing the importance of taking care of yourself.

  • You have an important event coming up that you want to feel confident for!

  • You’ve got a family you want to live a long healthy life for.

  • You want to love what you see when you look in the mirror.

🤔 Keep brainstorming!

Whatever your Whys are, they’re valid. AND they’re important to identify. Remember, without your Why(s), your fire will be tough to build or keep lit 🪵

Speaking of, it’s okay to have only one Why and it’s okay to have a whole bunch of Whys! Your fire can be as big or as small as you want. And we can bet that over time, your Whys will multiply and you’ll keep adding logs to your fire until it gets bigger and bigger! Wellness tends to build like that 💪🏻😉

Wellness Vision – your blazing bonfire

Ahhh the Wellness Vision. The giant mesmerizing flames that capture your attention and keep you focused 🔥

The end goal that, when you look at it, makes you happy. It makes you smile.

We know what you’re thinking: That’s a great visual, but what actually IS a Wellness Vision? And why do I need one? We’re so glad you asked!

Your Wellness Vision is a statement that encompasses what your life will look like when you achieve peak wellness. When you become your healthiest and happiest self. Your fittest and fiercest self 😉 Knowing what you want this to look like helps you establish what path you need to take to get there. It’s more than a simple, “I want to be healthy”… What EXACTLY will healthy look and feel like for you?

Maybe your Why was that you’ve seen family members get sick from diabetes and you don’t want that to happen to you. So, your Wellness Vision might look like: “I have strong eating habits, I enjoy eating whole foods, and I make nutritious meals for my family. I’m setting a good example for my kids, I’ve developed a consistent exercise routine, and I value making time to prioritize my needs.” That sounds like a pretty cool life, right?

So, are you ready to create YOUR Wellness Vision? (I hope you said yes!)

Let’s do an exercise…

  1. Close your eyes and take 5 deep breaths.

  2. Picture yourself 6 months, 1 year, even 5 years from now.

  3. You’ve accomplished your goals and found balance with your nutrition, fitness, and wellness.

  4. What does that look like? What does it feel like? What’s different in your life? What’s the same? What activities are you doing? What are you wearing?

Okay, open your eyes. Summarize what you just thought about into 2-3 sentences and THAT is your Wellness Vision (big beautiful bonfire)! When you think of that vision moving forward you should feel empowered, motivated, and inspired to pursue this journey! Now, tell me you aren’t excited to build such an epic bonfire?! 🔥

Habits – keeping the fire lit

Okay, so you’ve built this beautiful fire (with your Whys and Wellness Vision) and you’re feeling great in this moment. Enjoy it! ✨

And also know that this fire won’t last forever 😅 You have a solid foundation with your wood for now, but eventually, you’re going to need to add more fuel or else it’s going to die out.

So how do you add fuel to your fire? HABITS 🔥 Habits will keep you going even on the hard days. Make healthy habits such a normal part of your routine that it feels weird to not do it. THAT is how you keep your fire lit.

When thinking of which habits will best fuel your fire, it’s helpful to include nutrition, fitness, and wellness habits in order to create balance. This list might help get you started!

Nutrition:

  1. Eat breakfast

  2. Include produce with every meal

  3. Include protein with every meal

Fitness:

  1. 20 minutes of strength training

  2. 20 minute walk

  3. 15 minutes of stretching

Wellness:

  1. Get 7-9 hours of sleep

  2. Drink 8 cups of water

  3. Spend 20 minutes outside

Try not to jump into the deep end and do all these things at once though – adding one habit at a time is usually the most sustainable approach!

That’s it! You built a beautiful fire that will grow into the magically mesmerizing bonfire of your dreams. Enjoy the process ✨🪵🔥
