Energizing Movement

Use Brighter Evenings and Better Weather to Energize Your Movement

As the days get longer and the weather starts to warm up, it’s the perfect time to shake off the winter sluggishness and get moving! Whether you’ve been hibernating indoors or you’re just ready to switch up your routine, the energy of spring is here to motivate you to get active and feel your best 🌱 Let’s dive into some ways to move your body and bring more joy to your fitness routine!

☀️ Get Outside & Soak Up the Sunshine

There’s something about being outside in the fresh air that makes movement feel so much better. The sunshine and warmer temperatures can lift your spirits and provide that extra burst of energy you’ve been craving.

Ideas to get outdoors:

🌳 Walk or Hike: Find a local park or nature trail and soak in the sights and sounds of spring.

🚴‍♀️ Cycling: Dust off your bike and explore your neighborhood or nearby trails.

🏃‍♀️ Jogging or Running: If the weather is calling your name, a morning or evening jog can be the perfect way to energize your day.

🏋🏼‍♀️ Driveway Workout: Don't hide inside, grab your weights or your yoga mat and do your workout outside!

The goal isn’t perfection—it’s about getting outside and feeling connected to nature.

🌿 Try a New Spring Activity

Spring is the season of new beginnings, so why not try something new that excites you? Whether it’s a new fitness class, a fun sport, or simply changing up your usual routine, now’s the time to mix things up and see how much more energized you feel!

Spring activity ideas:

🎾 Tennis or Pickleball: Grab a friend and play some casual doubles, or join a local recreational league for some healthy competition.

💃 Outdoor Dance Class: Find an outdoor Zumba or dance class and let the music move you!🧘‍♀️ Outdoor Yoga: You can do the same with yoga! But if a class isn't your jam, set up your mat in your backyard or a park and breathe in the fresh air while stretching and strengthening your body.

🤸‍♀️ Playtime with Kids or Pets: Don’t underestimate the energy of playing tag, running around, or even a playful game of fetch with your dog.

🛶 Water Sports: Kayaking, paddleboarding, water aerobics classes, the water is a great way to enjoy the weather and some movement.

Trying something new can break the monotony of your usual workouts and get your blood pumping in exciting ways!

🌻 Make Movement Part of Your Daily Routine

The key to sustaining any fitness habit is consistency. This spring, aim to make movement part of your daily routine—whether it's a 10-minute stretch in the morning, a walk during lunch, or a longer workout after work. Small, daily activities can have a big impact on your energy and overall well-being.

How to add movement to your day:

✅ Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

✅ Set a timer to remind yourself to stand every hour.

✅ Walk or bike to errands instead of driving when possible.

✅ Put your workout into your calendar so you're less likely to forget or skip it.

💪🏻 Prioritize Strength Training

As the weather improves, it's easy to gravitate toward cardio, but don’t forget about building strength! Strength training can boost your metabolism, improve your posture, and help you feel empowered in your body. It’s also the perfect complement to outdoor activities because it gives you the power and endurance you need to tackle them!

Strength training tips for spring:

🧘🏼‍♀️ Bodyweight Exercises: Squats, lunges, push-ups, and planks can be done anywhere—no gym required!

🏋🏼‍♀️ Dumbbell or Resistance Band Workouts: Incorporate weights or bands to build strength and tone muscles.

🤸🏼‍♀️ Circuit Training: Create a circuit of bodyweight exercises and move quickly between them to keep your heart rate up and build strength.

🌸 Celebrate Your Progress

Spring is all about renewal and growth, so celebrate every bit of progress you make. Whether you’re getting stronger, faster, or just more consistent with your movement, take time to acknowledge how far you’ve come and give yourself credit for showing up for your body.

Ways to celebrate your progress:

🎉 Track Your Wins: Write down your fitness accomplishments, no matter how small.

📸 Take Progress Photos: Capture your journey so you can see how much you’ve improved over time.

👯‍♀️ Share with a Friend: Celebrate with a friend or loved one to keep each other motivated.

🎁 Reward Yourself: Are you reward motivated? Lean into it! Try some non-food rewards to motivate and celebrate your progress!

➕ Bonus Tip: Phone a Friend!

Movement is always more fun with your favorite people by your side (or on the other end of the line). Invite a friend to join you for a walk, hike, or workout class (even if they don't live nearby). Not only will you stay accountable, but you'll also get that extra boost of motivation along the way. Plus, studies show we’re more likely to stick with healthy habits when we do them with others — so grab your workout bestie and make it a date! 👯‍♀️
